Poha (Flattened rice)

Poha (flattened rice flakes, also called as Chidva) is a pretty easy to make make dish savoured across country. It can work well for breakfast or the evening snack.


2 tbsp cooking oil
2 finely cut onions
8-10 peanuts
2 tsp rai (mustard seeds)
4-5 curry leaves
1 green chilly (you can remove the seeds if you like it to be mildly spiced)
1 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
4-5 drops of lemon
4-5 fresh coriander leaves


Soak the flakes and put it in strainer to drain water

In a medium size skillet, add oil and lightly fry the mustard seeds. Then add cut onions and sauté. Add peanuts and stir well.

Now, add green chilly, curry leaves, turmeric powder, salt. Mix it well.

Finally add the flattened rice flakes in the pan. Toss is around for 7-8 times so that the mixture gets evening coated on the flakes.Keep it on the medium to low flame for another 5 min.

Remove it from the flame and add few drops of lemon juice and mix it well again. Garnish it with the fresh coriander.
